Episode 130 - Psyop

February 9th?

Not likely.  This is the last of the “pre-Italy” podcasts.  Hopefully I will be able to get these out faster than one per month.  Anyway, as part of a little “Sunday Morning Surprise” we discuss the subversive nature of both Tele-Tubbies and a certain NFL power couple, the majesty of AntsCanada, and the shining gem of the internet:  Elita Harkov.

 Music Featured in Episode 130:

“Vivarium” – Infected Rain

“Small Finds” – Sleater Kinney

“Working Poor” – Doc Rotten

We also review the very excellent new(ish) album by Pineapple Thief “It Leads to This” (album and tickets on sale now)

Extrasode 2 - The Math of Swellness

Extrasode 2 – The Math of Swellness

Who doesn’t like a review of an album that came out three months ago by two white men that is twice the length of the actual album?

This is a longform review of “Path of Wellness”.  Somewhere in there we explore the post framework of post album branding, a tangent on Tarantino, and Oliver Sacks theory of Fabi Reyna (whom I am also a fan of).

A little background:  We recorded this podcast in July.  This was during that magic period in which both the computer and the microphone were dying (spoilers).  The audio is a bit rough sounding, even after I cleaned it up.  Most notably, I had to cut most of a section where we talk about Sleater-Kinney’s
Post “The Woods” career.  I bring this up because it comes off as a lot more dismissive of those efforts.  I don’t want to snooze on this, because both Carrie and Corin produced some amazing music in those years (The Spells, Wild Flag, and the Corin Tucker Band).

Two more interesting notes:

1.       I seem to be a bit down on this album.  I’m not.  I love this album and still have it in heavy rotation.  My favorite song (which I neglect to mention) is “Favorite Neighbor”

2.      It’s interesting that I think of something sounding like “Fleetwood Mac” as a good thing, while my brother does not

Songs Featured in Extrasode 2:

“Price Tag”, “Path of Wellness”, “Favorite Neighbor” and “No Knives” – Sleater-Kinney

“Ditched You” – Mommy Long Legs

Excerpt at ~ 13 minutes is from “Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl” by Carrie Brownstein

Episode 72 Part 2 - Marty Maraschino - Destroyer of Podcasts

This one is a humdinger! A triptych of delights!!!!

In our first segment, we each discuss a beloved album from yesteryear.  Jaime takes an opportunity to give a history lesson, and a fun time is had by all.

In segment 2 (at about 26 minutes) Matt gives his discourse and perspective on the albums of the decade.  Lou jumps in, and a fun time is had by all.

In Segment 3 (around 51 minutes) a somewhat contentious discussion regarding a beloved character from a popular 70’s music, and a fun time is had by none.

Songs Featured in Episode 72 part 2:

“Crossbones Style” – Cat power

“Here Comes Your Man” and “Mr. Grieves” – The Pixies

“The Fox”, “Entertain”, and “Let’s Call It Love” – Sleater Kinney

“Fanny Dog” – Ty Segall

“Dead Man’s Gun” – Thee Oh Sees

Betrayal of Guilt/Pistol Whip and Gouge away were discussed, but not featured.
